participate as part of a Regional Air Quality Board Project called
Clean Air Works! This project will initially run from June through
August and is intended to include voluntary employer-based programs
to encourage employees and managers to reduce vehicles on roads and
the negative impacts from emissions, especially during bad air days.
Activities could include-where it makes business sense to do
so-occasionally working from home, using flex-time and compressing
schedule arrangements, riding CATS, carpooling, and ride -sharing.
University committee educational efforts aimed at encouraging a
change of mindset among faculty, staff and students about commuting

Pump ‘Em Up and
Check Your Gas Cap
UNC Charlotte’s Environmental
Assistance Office and the College of Engineering are sponsoring,
Pump ‘em Up, a national campaign that promotes proper vehicle
tire-inflation as a gasoline-saving measure, Thursday, June 7
from11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The public and campus community
are invited to bring their vehicles for a FREE tire-pressure
check and adjustment and gas cap check. Participants will
receive a free tire gauge. A new permanent “Pump ‘Em Up!”
station will be inaugurated. The air compressor was donated by
ARK Petroleum.
According to Pump ‘em Up, proper
tire inflation could save Americans 4 million gallons of gas
each day, hundreds of dollars each year on gas and extend the
life of their tires by 25 percent. If a leaky gas cap is
detected, it will be replaced free of charge.
The event will be held in Parking
Lot 23 by Duke Centennial Hall off Highway 29. CNN will be
on hand to film the activities. Savannah Walter, founder of Pump
‘em Up will attend.
